Managed Security Services Provider

Managed Security Services Provider

Posted on Jul 27, 2016

Did you know that we’re not just a Managed Services Provider (MSP), but we’re also a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP)? With us, it’s like you’re getting two companies in one. We offer both the technical expertise of an MSP and the security focus of an MSSP.

The Difference Between MSP and MSSP

Here are some distinguishing characteristics between the two kinds of services.

MSPs

Typical MSPs focus more on network management and monitoring services, both remotely and on site. They provide Help Desk support and some limited IT security. Their security services are highly reactive, responding to attacks after they happen. Just because you have an MSP doesn’t necessarily mean you’re covered well in security.

MSSPs

MSSPs offer different services than the typical MSP. MSSPs:

  • focus on security devices and systems
  • use security operation centers to offer more specialized services
  • are more aware of security issues in the market

There are MSSPs that are not MSPs, and they usually take a reactive approach. These MSSPs just monitor for problems by looking at logs and network traffic, not at the full network. If they detect issues, they alert the client—but they usually don’t have an MSP’s ability to fix the problems.

Best of Both

A successful MSSP needs to be an MSP so that problems are detected and solved through comprehensive processes and procedures, not just discovered through isolated data analysis. And an MSP that offers MSSP services provides high-level security with the know-how of technology experts.

Because we are both an MSP and an MSSP, we proactively and actively manage the security of your company. We proactively prepare systems so they’re less susceptible to attack, and we know about potential issues before they develop. We actively watch the systems all the time, so we can promptly counter anything that happens.

Benefits of the Extra “S”

It takes additional investment to implement these security services, but the higher level of security is strongly recommended, especially for banking, finance, and healthcare institutions. Consider these benefits:

  1. Increased quality of monitoring and awareness of security issues
  2. Enhanced security stance and attitude
  3. Decreased risk to business and client information
